Web Template Theme
The web template colors and graphics are based on the liturgical seasons Advent, Christmastide, Epiphany, Lent, Eastertide, Pentecost and Kingdomtide. This whole thing got started from Gail Oaks requesting a purple theme for the home page during Lent. While looking on the web in order to get a handle on the liturgical seasons, I got some inspiration from the Stained Glass page at the Endwell United Methodist Church site. Since the web background is white, I used gold for Christmastide and Eastertide. I am a bit concerned that the green Pentecost theme will be displayed about four months out of the year, but the green theme does looks good.
Reverend Stephen forwarded the link to First United Methodist Church of Maumelle, which typifies the modern look he was looking for. The logo with the web address adjacent to the cross-and-flames was appealing, a device which is also used on the UMC.org web site. The tabbed theme has been used on many other web sites, but I like tabs as it suggests to the user to use the web site like a filing cabinet. I was intrigued by FUMC Maumelle's banners advertising church members web sites, so I set up a script to rotate banners on this site. Until requests for banner ads come in, I created a banner around the animated graphic for the UMC.org link and found an animated graphic for the Christian greeting card banner, and updated the "A Place of Encouragement" banner.
Right now I have to change the colors of each season manually. Work has begun on a script to automatically rotate the colors and the graphics. Check out the Easter Calculator that may be the base that the script will come from. Also separate templates for each season were included on the web site. These templates will not be included in any seasonal change. If you use the Advent template, your page theme color will be always purple.
Another feature is the auto resizing of the web page dependent on the screen resolution and window size. Also the related links area on the right navigation bar is editable in Contribute, so that links relating to the content on the page may be placed here. And a stylesheet for printing was included, which will keep the main body text inside the printable area, and the printed page presentable.
I added a graphic into each theme. They are Advent Candles, The Nativity, The Wise Men, Crown of Thorns, Three Crosses with Lillies, a Flame and a Dove.
