Haiti
United Methodist at FSFUMC has the opportunity to respond in positive ways to the disaster that has taken place in Haiti following the earthquake. There are two ways that you can help with the International Disaster Response for the devastation that has taken place in Haiti.
- This Sunday, January 17, 2010, FSFUMC will take a special offering in all three worship services for UMCOR who is responding to the needs in . UMCOR will help us reach out to and through our Methodist connections in Haiti. This Sunday, you can write your checks to UMCOR International Disaster Response Advance #982450 and in the memo line write: Haiti. It is also possible to give directly to UMCOR through the internet by going to: http://www.umcor.org.
- UMCOR is also in need of health kits and as many as we can collect.Thousands of people are displaced from their homes and these kits will allow them to have individual personal hygiene items until they have a more permanent living situation. UMCOR has specific items and packaging that complies with the regulations of the country. Items for each kit are as follows and the kits can be dropped off during the week at the church or on Sunday mornings in the Narthex, Janice's office, or in boxes located close to the worship services. Flyers with this information will also be available in Sunday School Rooms and in worship services.
Items: (please place in a gallon size plastic sealed bag)
- · 1 Hand towel (15" x 25" up to "17 x 27", NO kitchen towel!)
- · 1 Washcloth
- · 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket size)
- · 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (NO emery boards or toenail clippers)
- · 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
- · 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child size brushes)
- · 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages.
